Grants Received by Friends of Sonoita Creek

Introduction

Receiving grants is becoming a fundamental aspect of funding for Friends of Sonoita Creek (Friends). Grants, along with individual donors, provide essential financial aid, enabling Friends to undertake projects and initiatives that may otherwise lack the necessary resources.  Friends is a wholly volunteer organization.  Members are encouraged to help us in grant writing activities.

The Friends of Sonoita Creek is grateful for the financial support and confidence of the following granting organizations:

Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area (2025) —– $5000

This grant will help Friends complete a community project to provide the residents of the Town of Patagonia with a recreational/educational opportunity with a cellphone audio tour of the Cemetery Trail.  Friends will contract with TravelStorys to create, promote, and maintain a GPS-based audio tour.  The project will also enhance the visitor experience in Patagonia, an important center in the Santa Cruz Valley..

Patagonia Regional Community Fund (2025) —– $2000 (requested)

Friends has requested $2000 in 2025 to purchase groundwater level measurements equipment to monitor groundwater levels throughout the Sonoita Creek watershed.  Groundwater Level data will equip local decision makers with sound data to wisely manage our water resources.

CNRS (2025) —– $2500

Friends have been awarded a two-year grant from the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) of approximately $4000 to purchase field equipment to conduct environmental activities in the Sonoita Creek Watershed.  This will enable Friends to credibly continue its field monitoring activities.

Patagonia Regional Community Fund (2024) —– $4000
