Friends and Arizona State Parks Healthy Water Education Program curriculum for grades 3-6 includes classroom preparation for a field trip to Patagonia lake that includes math, physics, biology, and lab and field techniques. Students use a journal to record information during their field trip using sketches, notes and calculations. This program is currently not available on a regular basis. OZ Exploration Pty. Ltd., an Australian mining company has proposed exploration drilling in the Patagonia Mountains.
North American Potash Developers has staked over 200 mining claims for exploration in the Patagonia area.
