ANNUAL MEETING OF FRIENDS AND A TALK BY HYDROLOGIST TOM MEIXNER ON MARCH 24 at 2:00 P.M. at Cady Hall next to the Patagonia Library.  The public is invited. 

 

HIKES!  PROGRAMS!

Please call for reservations. If you reach a machine, leave your name, contact number and and the number of people in your group.  Someone will attempt to notify you if there is a schedule change or cancellation due to weather or illness.

Hikes are free except if they originate at Patagonia Lake State Park, then an annual pass or $10 admission for four applies.  Wear sturdy shoes and clothing layers suitable for various temperature during the day.  Bring water, food and perhaps a walking stick.

 

Feb. 22, (Wed.) Hike along the route of New Mexico & Arizona Railroad around Patagonia Lake State Park and AZ State Trust land.   Moderate difficulty within one mile of parking.  Meet at Patagonia Lake Park Visitor Center to carpool, 9 am. Hike leader Allyson Armstrong, 520-287-2791.

Feb. 25, (Sat.) Program: Intro to Sonoita Creek State Natural Area  Patagonia Lake State Park Visitor Center, 7 pm.

Mar. 3, (Sat.)  Program:  The (Sometimes) Rocky Road to Arizona Statehood.  Patagonia Lake State Park Visitor Center, 7, pm.  Presenter:  Greg Scott

Thurs. March 8, 5:15 PMMoonlight Hike.  Experience the wonderful view of Sonoita Creek and Patagonia Lake by moonlight.  Wear sturdy shoes; bring water, a flashlight, and perhaps a walking stick.  Trail is moderately difficult with a 350 ft. elevation gain.  Meet at Visitor Center at 5:15.  Call to register 520-287-2791.

Mar. 10, (Sat.) Program:  Beavers as Ecosystem Engineers.  Patagonia Lake State Park Visitor Center, 7, pm.  Presenter:  Karla Pelz

Mar. 14 (Wed.) Join Greg Scot on a stroll along the Railroad Trail in Sonoita Creek State Natural Area. Meet at Patagonia Lake State Park Visitor Center at 9:00 AM to carpool to the trailhead.  Call for information and register at 520-287-5149.

Mar 24 (Sat.) Program:  Geology of Arizona and Sonoita Creek State Natural Area.  Patagonia Lake State Park Visitor Center, 7, pm.  Presenter:  Bob Handfield

March 31 (Sat) Hike with geologist Bob Handfield to the top of Patagonia’s Red Mountain.  Meet at the Patagonia Post Office at 8:00 AM.  Bring water and lunch.  This is a beautiful hike and the view from the top is outstanding.  Call 520-287-2791 to register.

March 31 (Sat) Program:  National Parks of the U.S. Patagonia Lake State Park Visitor Center, 7, pm.  Presenter:  Bob Handfield

 

“The Nogales International” newspaper is a source of news for western Santa Cruz Co., Nogales and Rio Rico.

“The Bulletin” is published by the “International” and focuses on eastern Santa Cruz Co. (Elgin, Sonoita, Patagonia) with editorials and columns discussing local issues.
